There was a rally outside one of the state capitol buildings for, what appeared to be, unions.  These people who, I, Buk Carmichael, assume, want to work, were wearing shirts and carrying signs the said “no right to work”.  I just don’t understand this obvious contradiction.  What they mean is, don’t let people work if they are making less money and receiving fewer benefits than union members.

I came from a place where many union members lived, it’s called blue collar.  I didn’t have a clue as to what that really meant.  I also know of union members that quit there jobs in order to collect unemployment, only to put their names back in the book to go back to work.

i know a teenager who worked in a supermarket and was forced to join a union.  Subsequently, she got fired–or set up–because she had an adolescent chip on her shoulder, and the union didn’t do squat to help her; even though she paid her union dues.

Needless to say, I have a very dim view of unions.  Perhaps there was a time when they may have been useful, but as far as I can tell, they are power hungry demagogues that have worn out their welcome in the U.S. and can go back to Europe from whence they came.  It is thought that the trade union, or the solidarity of labor for collective bargaining, began in Europe in the 19^th century.  It may have been an outgrowth of the medieval guild system.  The labor unions in the U.S. originally fought for safe working conditions, fair wages and health care.  However, during the great depression, communism sunk its claws into a sick economy and made pals with the democrat party, starting with Franklin Delano Roosevelt.  This leads us to the mess that we find ourselves in today.  The idea that so-called union workers are lobbying legislators to force non-union workers to join unions or don’t work, is the apex of absurdity.  They want to outlaw the right to work.

How did all this power fall into the union lap?  Let’s begin with the 1935 National Labor Relations Act.  This federal law limits the ability of employers to react to private sector workers, who create labor unions, and engage in forms of intimidation to get their demands met.  The 1947 Labor–Management Relations Act is supposed to monitor the activities and control of labor unions.  This law also authorized states to disallow union security clauses, whereby a non-union member is compelled to join a union or loose their job.  The states can pass right-to-work laws, preventing unions from negotiating contracts.  Right-to-work laws allow companies to hire workers, and not have those workers be compelled to become union members.  That was back in 1947 and even in this bleak economy with high unemployment, unions still want to force workers to join unions or not be allowed to work.

Simply put, unions are an outgrowth of the good-old-boy system.  But make no mistake about it, unions are big business!  They, with many communists are in control of the Democrat party.  So, as you consider who you want to vote for, and which party you think best represents your interests, consider that the Democrats do not want you to have a right to work.  Consider that unions are no better than big tobacco or big oil.  Consider that out of the top 20 donors to the Democrat party, 15 of those donors are unions.  The Democrat party is no longer for the working guy, the unions will make certain of that.
